A Natural Spring Break

By Barb Hansen
March 2018

Hey everybody, in case you haven’t noticed, Spring Break is almost here! If your vacation plans are made, great; if not, I have a suggestion. Think about going back to nature as you consider your options.

Let me explain what I mean. I’d like to see families get back to what I call the “natural world”. That’s not the world created by marketers, nor the near countless venues of man-made entertainment, much of it right here in sunny Florida. I’m sorry, but long lines and bumper-to-bumper people don’t equate to a vacation for me.

The nature I’m suggesting for your consideration and Spring Break is not man-made. My natural world reflects the Divine influence that’s evident all around you as you watch shore birds dashing in and out of the waves, the magnificent cloud formations after a storm, and the truly brilliant Southwest Florida sunsets.

My natural world is void of crowded beaches or the long, long lines of busy theme parks. It’s on the water.

Whether sailing or powerboating, you can get away from the hustle and bustle of hotel scene or a sardine-packed cruise ship. This is a natural spring break for the whole family, regardless of age. Set out on your private yacht and get back to nature.

And don’t worry if you don’t have experience to handle a vessel yourself, you can hire a Caption who will take you to some of the most beautiful islands in Southwest Florida.

If fishing is your family interest, forget trying to teach the kids to fish off a crowded resort dock. Hire a fishing guide to take you out for a day or longer. You WILL catch fish and you’ll make memories with your kids that will last a lifetime.

There’s also marina hoping up and down our coast, plus countless opportunities for shelling or just relaxing and enjoying all that Mother Nature has to offer all day long on board or off.

I’m partial to Southwest Florida, but this side of the Sunshine State offers many natural opportunities like swimming with the manatees at Crystal River or Mote Marine Laboratory where you can see all of the remarkable work they do there caring for and studying marine life.

One other thing I’d like to mention if you take my suggestion, I can pretty much guarantee texting will give way to talking. That’s another plus of vacationing “naturally”.
