A Thanksgiving Toast Some years ago I gave Vic a tee shirt that read, “Life is an adventure, not a guided tour.”
Since it is that time of year when we give thanks for all that is good and
right in our lives, I will give thanks for the gift of the adventurous
spirit that Vic and I share. That spirit has defined our 20 (going on 21
years) together as partners
This is not to say that bad things don’t happen. It would be easy to be brought down with the negative stuff in the headlines like wars, pestilence and famines. It would be easy to dwell too long and negatively on the close-to-home issues, too, like the difficult people we have to deal with, personal tragedies, health problems, and weather calamities.

In
southwest Florida we’ll remember Hurricane Charley of 2004 for a long
time. Hurricane Charley came ashore at Charlotte Harbor and damaged some
of the vessels in our sailing fleet. Our mutual response? “It could have
been worse.” In years to come when we recall Hurricane Charley, I believe
we will exchange wry, knowing smiles that confirm the old saw, “If it
doesn’t kill you, it will make you stronger.”
Do
you know where this picture was taken? If you guessed “Southwest Florida”
you are correct! 
The
spacious Dutch Sturdy layout features a spacious open fore-cabin with a
dinette table plus sleeping for two. The lower salon has an L-shaped
galley with generous lockers and drawers opposite a combined
toilet/shower/basin compartment. The main salon features a spacious
L-shaped dining table with bar and helm. The master cabin features two
single berths with large drawers and shelves for clothing and gear.
Powered by a Volvo 88 hp engine, Halve Maan II cruises at approximately 8
knots and uses only 1.5 gallons of fuel per hour.
Jack
and AnnaBelle Allyn chartered with us three times and dreamed of
cruising. They then purchased an Island Packet 31 for our fleet with the
dream of cruising. Now, after three years in charter service, they have
retired and their boat has retired and their dream is coming true. In
their “thank you” note to us they wrote, “we want to thank you so much for
everything you have done from the time we met in October, 1996 through
charters . . . and having the experience of having Sojourner in the
sailing fleet was a plus. Your professionalism and care has been superb.”
