Captain Vic's yacht charter tip and sailing information.
We have compiled the following list of clothing and other personal gear which, based on our experience, will help make your cruising experience more enjoyable.
  • Soft luggage that will stow easily on board.
  • Suntan lotion with sunscreen (non-staining lotion), and no oils at all!
  • Insect repellent lotion.
  • Hat or visor — we recommend one that fits securely.
  • A long sleeved, light shirt for protection against the sun.
  • Sunglasses (at least one pair, but preferably two) - we recommend polarized lenses with Ultraviolet protection and keeper string or headband.
  • Photography equipment and plenty of film. Bring a case to protect your camera when not in use. An underwater camera is highly recommended.
  • Shirts, shorts and, of course, bathing suits for daytime.
  • Foul weather gear or a simple rain jacket.
  • Long sleeved, heavy shirt, sweater or sweatshirt. A pair of your favorite jeans or a sweatsuit are nice for cool weather cruising.
  • A sport jacket for men and a casual dress for women if dockside dining is in your cruising plans.
  • One pair deck shoes, or tennis shoes with rubber or crepe soles - no sandals, barefeet,Anchor art tennis shoes with black soles or street shoes, please, for your own protection and to prevent damage to the vessel while on board. Some "athletic" type shoes leave marks on the deck.
  • At least one pair of dry socks.
  • One pair of "old tennies" for beachcombing, shelling. etc.
  • Toiletries — a "shower bag" is great for taking to marina facilities.
  • Any prescription medications, special dietary food or drink, or other medical supplies. If you think motion sickness may be a problem, check with your doctor for available remedies.
  • Personal cassette tapes or CD's for the ship's stereo. Check your yacht's inventory list for details.
  • Snorkeling gear (there is limited scuba diving in the local area). Rental equipment is not readily available.
  • Your own fishing gear, or you can purchase it locally.
  • Travelers checks, rather than large amounts of cash, for all your vacation expenses. We recommend leaving expensive jewelry at home. Enjoy your cruise!
